  Daizenshuu EX - Updates from December 2004

[ Previous Month - November 2004 ] [ Next Month - January 2005 ]

30 December 2004

DBZ Movie 10 + Redub Release Dates
VegettoEX @ 11:54 pm EST -- FUNimation finally spills some beans regarding the releases of DBZ movie 10 and the first volume of the DBZ redubs. Look for movie 10 (now re-titled to Broly: Second Coming) on 5 April 2005 and the first volume of the so-called Ultimate Uncut Edition (the first uncut redubbed / subtitled episodes of DBZ) the following week, 12 April 2005.

I think I've managed to update all relevant pages within the "Movie Guide" and the "DVD Guide." Lots of info to add ^_~.

Manga parody! Contest soon! Gak!

New Manga Download! Bôbobo / DBZ Parody!
VegettoEX @ 8:49 pm EST -- The "Manga Downloads" section makes its official debut, here on Daizenshuu EX. It's quite odd of us to be hosting any kind of manga for download, but it all makes complete sense once you step inside.

Rather than being the typical "fanboy" site with some random (poor quality) "scanlations" of the DragonBall manga up for download, we have some actual (special!) material that you'll be hard-pressed to find anywhere else.

In addition to our previous release of Neko Majin Z 3, you'll find an all-new parody by Yoshio Sawai, author of Bobobôbo Bôbobo (one of the strangest manga you'll ever read). At first it's set up as a simple (and direct) reenactment of the first Goku/Vegeta battle, but it quickly turns into something much different...!

Head on over to the new "Manga Downloads" section to check it out. There's a bunch of extras along with our translation (all handled by Julian). Special thanks to EvilGamerX for scanning us the raw files.

Oh, and I've put up the most recent Shonen Jump scan over on the "Covers" page, but who cares about that... >.>

Our DragonBall 20th anniversary contest is coming soon...! We're hard at work, so look forward to it! Onegaishimasu!

Budokai 1-2 OST Tracklisting & More!!
Julian @ 12:05 am EST -- Remember the soundtrack for Budokai 1 and 2 that was supposed to be coming out forever ago in Japan? Remember how it kept getting pushed back repeatedly at CD Japan, to the point where some of us were beginning to suspect they were just making it up? Ever wonder what happened? Well, wonder no more... The Budokai 1 & 2 OST is back, and is it ever.

Forum-goer SS Kakarot discovered that the soundtrack has been relisted by Japanese vendors, now indicating a 19 January release date. What's more, is that there's cover art and a tracklisting this time, making it pretty well set in stone. (Although it's called the "DragonBall Z & Z2 Original Soundtrack," remember that it's because the games are simply "Dragonball Z" and "DragonBall Z 2" in Japan.) But that's not all...

According to the poster advertising the soundtrack's release, we're in for a treat: The month after the Budokai & Budokai 2 OST comes out, we'll get a CD-single of the openings of Budokai 2 and 3, and the month after that, we'll have the Budokai 3 soundtrack!! Who'd'a' thunk it? The single of "Ore wa Tokoton Tomaranai" (the Budokai 3 theme, now with name-y goodness) and "Kusuburu heart ni Hi o Tsukero" (the Budokai 2 theme) is out on 23 February, while the DBZ 3 soundtrack will be hitting Japanese store shelves exactly one week later, on 02 March (my birthday :-D).

So, pretty awesome stuff. In honor of this momentous thing, I've put up the tracklisting for the DragonBall Z & Z2 OST on the "Videogame CDs" page of our Music Database. Check it out, and enjoy the rest of the holidays.

Where's the Celebration?!?
VegettoEX @ 1:05 pm EST -- There hasn't been much fanfare around, anywhere... I guess it's partially our fault for not making it more explicit.

This month is the 20th anniversary of DragonBall in manga form. Huzzah for the world! Since you probably won't see us again until after the holiday, we're proud to wish DragonBall a Happy 20th Birthday (and all our visitors) a Merry Christmas~!

For celebration purposes, we're going to be putting up a contest in the coming days (or maybe week). Be sure to pay attention! This one won't involve any creative work on your part, so don't worry about having to come up with some fantastic writing or amazing artwork. It's all super-fun and does its job in celebrating the manga, itself. When it goes up (we'll tell you ahead of time when it'll be posted), you'll have a single 24 hour period. The reader who sends in the first 100% correct answer (or closest there-to in the 24 hour period) will be the winner... and will get some really great stuff mailed to them.

You don't want to miss it. Look forward to it!

18 December 2004

Come Play Trivia
VegettoEX @ 7:08 pm EST -- Randomly decided to start up the trivia session. In approximately one hour from now at 8 PM EST over in #daizenshuu, we'll be starting up.

If you have trouble connecting to irc.rizon.net, try one of the other severs (like irc.rizon.ca).

"Rumor Guide" Updates (Including Goku's Spaceship!)
VegettoEX @ 12:28 am EST -- The "Rumor Guide" has been updated with quite a number of things! In addition to adding the all-new "Video Games" page for the section, Julian's gone through with a good bunch o' research with regards to the whole Goku's spaceship issue. There's finally a conclusion to the matter!

The "Inconsistencies" page has also been updated with the spaceship, but that's got nothing to do with the rumor ^_~.

I can't even begin to describe the cool stuff we've got in the works, so definitely pay attention to the site.

16 December 2004

Great Saiyaman DVD Release Date
VegettoEX @ 10:43 pm EST -- Before twenty people all rush to e-mail me the exact same information, I've gone and updated the appropriate page within the "DVD Guide" with the release details of the first Great Saiyaman disc (actually starting off the Ano-Yo-Ichi Budôkai). Volume 57 is due out 15 March 2005, and will be available with optional box for series eleven (the Great Saiyaman arc, of which there are five total volumes).

Look for some neato updates this weekend! Been hard at work on some new stuff. Hoping to get one more trivia session in before X-mas... pay attention to updates!

Reminder... Trivia Session in Chat Tonight!
VegettoEX @ 1:12 pm EST -- Just a reminder that there's going to be a trivia session in #daizenshuu this evening! It's been a while since we last had one of these, and it's an awesome fun time. Just pop over into the chat this evening (we'll be starting up around 8 pm EST). I might even let the winner pick some sort of prize...! Yay, fun.

10 December 2004

Neko Majin Z 5?!
Julian @ 1:00 pm EST -- This goes hand-in-hand with yesterday's update, so if you haven't read that, do so now. Following up on the news of Neko Majin Z 4 in the January issue of Monthly Jump, those who have gotten it (it went on sale this past Monday) are reporting that Neko Majin Z 5 will be in the Feburary issue. Two new Toriyama works in a row?! It's almost like the good ol' days. Who or what could possibly appear in NMZ5...? I guess we'll have to wait and see!

09 December 2004

Neko Majin Z 4 + Music + Images + Trivia Coming Back?!
VegettoEX @ 4:54 pm EST -- It's true; Neko Majin Z 4 will appear in this January's Monthly Shônen Jump (the Japanese release, of course). What's more is that we hear a certain Mr. Buu makes an appearance...! We're definitely going to try and get our hands on it / translate as soon as possible. Until then, here's the magazine's and chapter's cover to hold you over:

So check out some of the other new stuff. Due to popular demand, I've added "The Biggest Fight ~Gekitotsu~" to the "Music Downloads" section. It's the original Japanese opening theme to the PlayStation (1) game Final Bout, and features more great vocals by Hironobu Kageyama. I've also added the short instrumental of the Budokai 3 opening, "The Ultimate Energy!!" Not that you don't already have the short vocal and long instrumental versions from us, already ^_~.

Viz was nice and promptly sent out my replacement for December's Shonen Jump, so we're all caught up over in the "Covers" section.

So I'm thinking of bringing back the trivia sessions to the chat room. I've been working on the file for a few weeks now, and I think I've got more than enough. Let's try it out! This coming Saturday (11 December 2004) @ 8 pm EST, come hang out in #daizenshuu to partake in the trivia! If you have any questions, come see us in the chat before-hand.

I've still got a few random things up on eBay. Check 'em.

08 December 2004

"Filler Guide" Updated!
Julian @ 2:45 pm EST -- The "Filler Guide" has now been updated with info on DBZ Episode 7! Watch as Goku runs, Gohan cries, and Kuririn struggles to break the news to Chi-Chi! Special Thanks to Clay for his work on this section. And to my DB Kanzenban volumes for the manga scans... even though I'll be getting a nice break after the next couple of episodes. :-)

With fall semester finals near at hand, expect a number of updates in the coming weeks. I intend to make use of my free time, once I have some. Otanoshimi ni~!

05 December 2004

An "Ask VegettoEX" Update?! + Japanese DBZ3 Extras!!!
VegettoEX @ 1:12 pm EST -- "Ask VegettoEX" has indeed been updated for the first time in around two months! Thanks for sending questions in, again, everyone... it's definitely one of the most fun sections to work on. Be sure to check it out, especially if you're new to the site. Great interactivity and learning.

Julian's also gone through The "Transformations - Saiyan" page once more to clean up a few things here and there. I don't think we could possibly be more accurate, at this point :P.

Some other little things here and there. Hopefully the "Filler Guide" will get that promised update tomorrow...!

And lastly, The Magic Box has updated and we've finally got a release date set for DragonBall Z 3... 10 February 2005. Also, it will have, "... additional characters from the DBZ movies and Dragon Ball GT."

Note that we simply have no idea EXACTLY who these extra characters are going to be (though we can probably make some educated guesses). We'll be sure to let you know as soon as we find out.

So who all is ordering... ?! ^_~

03 December 2004

"The Buzz" and "Transformations" and "Images" Updates
VegettoEX @ 5:04 pm EST --
"The Buzz" has some rather significant updates. It tends to fall behind when I have a lot to do on it ^_~. Check it out to see a gallery of every single last playable character in Budokai 3, along with some updated information on a variety of other things. Thanks to B-kun for the info and screen-cap on Advance Adventure.

The "Transformations Guide" has had its "Saiyan" page updated pretty significantly, as well. An all-new entry for "Full-Power Super Saiyan" has been added, some extra (and re-checked) notes for the USSJ stages, and some other little things here and there (mostly involving Vegetto).

Also added this January's Shonen Jump over on the "Covers" page. Waiting on a replacement on my December 2004 issue, which is why it's not there, yet. Blah.

Yes, there will actually be an "Ask VegettoEX" this weekend...!

Of course, the real big news is below, so be sure to read it.

DBGT to get DVD "Dragon Box " Treatment in Japan
Julian @ 4:10 pm EST --
Hey everyone. I know I haven't personally updated in a while, but you know how it goes. While Mike rediscovers "free time" as a college graduate, I begin to lose my tenuous grip on it as a sophomore college student. But that's beside the point.

Now then... as you may recall, both DragonBall and DragonBall Z have been released on DVD in Japan over the past two years, in the form of three huge (not to mention hugely expensive) boxed sets, known as "Dragon Boxes." There's three so far, because DBZ was split in half. But there is soon to be a fourth...

As forum-goer Milton pointed out to us in this thread, Toei has officially announced the DBGT Dragon Box. Go ahead and check out the official GT DVD site and see for yourself. For the exorbitant-but-still-lower-than-domestic-DVDs price of ¥52,500 (about $509 US), you'd get:

  • All 64 episodes in raw (unsubtitled) Japanese, on 11 picture-labeled NTSC Region-2 (Japan and parts of Europe) DVDs, with a sturdy box sporting a new illustration;
  • A special disc containing the GT TV Special (a.k.a. "A Hero's Legacy"), plus other (unspecified) bonus features;
  • Remastered video and audio (both will be cleaner, although nothing can change the fact that it was animated by hand in the 90's and recorded in mono);
  • The fourth exclusive "Dragonbook" booklet, with interviews and plenty of behind-the-scenes on the GT anime, and...
  • A life-size Dragon Radar TV / DVD Remote?!
You read right on that last one... while the DBZ sets had Goku and Piccolo figures from Kaiyodo, and the DB set had a Tenka-ichi Budôkai diorama, this one will have a remote control, shaped like (and the same size as) the Dragon Radar. It's certainly an offbeat choice, but I gotta say... I want one now. ^^;

The GT Dragon Box preorder ends on 28 February 2005, and it will be officially released on 25 May. So if you want yours, you might want to start saving up those pennies now. On a more affordable note, there will probably be a GT anime guide from Shueisha (to match Tenka-ichi Densetsu and Son Gokû Densetsu) in the coming months. I haven't seen anything about it yet, but I'll be sure to keep you posted. Julian, out~.
