Toriyama's Christmas Crossover Gift!
Julian @ 11:15 pm EST -- We've got some late-breaking news for you this evening, hot off the pages of the Weekly Shônen Jump hitting newsstands this coming Monday. On the title page for One Piece, it was announced that OP author Eiichiro Oda will be doing a joint manga with his (and our) idol, Akira Toriyama. This manga will be appearing in the 2007 #4/5 issue, going on sale Monday, 25 December (which is apparently some kind of holiday or other).

What does this mean for you, the fans? Well, that's some brand-spankin' new Toriyama (and Oda) material, just in time for Christmas. So make sure you've been good girls and boys... Santa Toriyama's got a special present just for you. ^^

Podcast Episode #0053
VegettoEX @ 3:08 pm EST -- Episode #0053 of the podcast is available for download! It's that time of year when general content updates slow down due to everyone's general life-stuffage going on, but things like the podcast allow us to get that content out to you every week, like it or not! :P We've got a review of FUNimation's recent "First Strike" DVD boxset, containing their re-releases of DBZ movies 1, 2, & 3. Also, this is your chance to take a glimpse into what goes on behind the scenes with a little something we like to call "Fandom Theatre". Definitely check it out.

Texas Is The Reason in NYC tonight. You wish you were going.

Podcast Episode #0052 — One-Year Anniversary!
VegettoEX @ 6:12 pm EST -- Episode #0052 of the podcast is available for download! That's right, it's the show's one-year anniversary! We bust it out in celebratory style, not only giving away daizenshuu three (did you win?!), but also hanging with FUNimation translator and old-school DBZ fanboy extraordinaire Steven J. Simmons! Children, gather 'round for your history lesson... it's time to get your learnin' on! We also discuss with Steve the upcoming remastered DBZ boxsets from FUNimation, and get all the information that we have out there. Definitely check it out.

Podcast Anniversary & Contest Reminder
VegettoEX @ 7:14 am EST -- Just reminding everyone that this weekend will be (in addition to the Wii acquisition) the one-year anniversary of the podcast! You'll definitely want to check out the show. In addition to that, remember that we'll be giving away a copy of daizenshuu 3 (TV ANIMATION PART 1) on the show, along with maybe another special prize... ^_~. Want to win? Just listen in to last week's episode for details.

DBZ Movies 1-3 Re-Release in Stores
VegettoEX @ 5:44 pm EST -- This is going to be the... *counts* ... seventh time I'm buying DBZ movie 1. Oh, silly fanboy.

Anyway, the so-called "First Strike" boxset is in stores today. It includes FUNimation's re-releases of DBZ movies 1, 2, and 3. The version of movie 1 is the same "Ultimate Uncut Edition" version they released back in May 2005. They all feature FUNimation's cast, a re-done script, and re-done music on the dub side. But that's not what Daizenshuu EX visitors are interested in! On the Japanese side, they continue to retain the original version, now complete with Steve Simmons' subtitles (as opposed to the only-somewhat-accurate-at-times translations present on the joint FUNimation/Pioneer releases from 1997-1998). The picture looks a little nicer, too.

If you want the set, it's a ridiculous $18.14 at DeepDiscountDVD, $19.99 at Best Buy, and $26.99 at Amazon.

FUNimation Remasters DragonBall Z
VegettoEX @ 9:37 pm EST -- By now you've no doubt heard that FUNimation will be releasing the entirety of DragonBall Z completely remastered on DVD. If you haven't heard by now, you can read their official press release via Anime News Network or PR Newswire. Also, check out FUNimation's high-res trailer.

What does this mean for you all? It means you're getting something very similar to a "Dragon Box"-style visual presentation, with a whole slew of extras... but a whole lot more questions at the present. If you go by the press release, it would appear that there will be multiple audio tracks, including an English dub track with the original Japanese score (by Shunsuke Kikuchi). While this doesn't correct the altered script and cast of voices featured in FUNimation's English dub, it's at least something different.

There's a whole lot else to be said. Phrases like "1080p" and "widescreen" are being tossed around like candy without a whole lot of technical, definitive, and authoritative confirmation.

Here's what we can tell you... We're going to have some exclusive information coming next weekend. You're not only going to want to tune into the podcast for our one-year anniversary show and amazing interview, but also for this exclusive low-down on the upcoming remastered sets, only from Daizenshuu EX.

Until then, continue drooling.

12 November 2006

Podcast Episode #0051
VegettoEX @ 8:30 pm EST -- Episode #0051 of the podcast is available for download! We're one week away from the one-year anniversary episode, but that doesn't mean we're taking it easy. This week we discussed all of the alter-egos and disguises used over the course of the series. Also, in response to an e-mail, I got to tell a creepy DBZ dream story! Hurray! Definitely check it out.

And all you people not listening to the podcast... you're missing out on a chance to win one of these, absolutely free, no strings attached (big thanks to Kula):

Yeah. That's what I thought. Not only that, but next week on the one-year anniversary episode, we're doing an amazing interview with someone very special, and I might just throw in something else with the daizenshuu. Tune your arse in.

And yes, we'll update tomorrow with more info on the "big" DVD news from FUNimation. Not really worth talking about, yet.

10 November 2006

Jump Ultimate Stars Commercials!
VegettoEX @ 11:05 pm EST -- The game's official website has a couple new commercials for the game available for viewing.

Amazing. The game drops on November 23rd exclusively in Japan.

07 November 2006

FUNimation's Vegeta Saga DVD Set Release Date?
VegettoEX @ 5:42 pm EST -- Tanooki Kuribo's on top of things, as usual! If you check out the RightStuf entry for the upcoming, hush-hush "Season 1: Vegeta Saga"... you'll see a release date listed of 06 February 2007. No other retailers seem to have an updated date at the moment (for example, Amazon), but if history proves to repeat itself, RightStuf usually knows what's up.

05 November 2006

Podcast Episode #0050
VegettoEX @ 4:30 pm EST -- Episode #0050 of the podcast is available for download! We're closing in on that one-year anniversary episode, too. This week, we discuss the rivalry between Goku & Vegeta, compare it to that of Goku & Piccolo, and even compare it to important rivalries from other anime series. Lots more can be found in the episode, as well! In case you haven't heard... we're giving away a daizenshuu! You've gotta listen to the show to find out how to win. Definitely check it out.

04 November 2006
