Daizenshuu EX - Updates from June 2006

[ Previous Month - May 2006 ] [ Next Month - July 2006 ]

29 June 2006

Happy (Japanese) Super DBZ Day!
VegettoEX @ 7:09 am EDT -- Super DragonBall Z sees its release in Japan on the PlayStation 2 today! Those of you who ordered it from Play-Asia probably had it shipped out to you on Tuesday (like I did), so look for it coming in this week! Much excitement.

Look for the American release in July from Atari.

27 June 2006

FUNimation Release of DBZ Movie 13 Delayed
VegettoEX @ 7:11 am EDT -- DBZ Movie 13 (strangely re-titled Wrath of the Dragon by FUNimation) has been delayed from its original August release date, and now appears to be coming out on September 12th (per its Amazon entry, etc.).

25 June 2006

Podcast Episode #0032
VegettoEX @ 12:00 am EDT -- Episode #0032 of the podcast is available for download! That's right, it's actually set to go right at midnight on this lovely Sunday morning for you all. We definitely had fun with this episode, discussing the shift in music that took place between DragonBall / DragonBall Z into DragonBall GT (including the background music and theme songs). Tons of news 'n stuffage, as well! Definitely check it out.

Super DragonBall Z Scores + D.O.N. New Characters
VegettoEX @ 9:44 am EDT -- According to The Magic Box, Famitsu has given the PS2 port of Super DragonBall Z an overall 31/40 (8, 8, 7, 8)... pretty good scores, especially coming from said source! The game drops on June 29th in Japan, and sometime in July in the US.

The Magic Box also has up a bunch of new scans from Battle Stadium D.O.N. showcasing new characters from all series, including Trunks, Freeza, etc. Check it.

Sparking! NEO Scans — New Characters & Features
VegettoEX @ 7:34 am EDT -- NDomain is featuring two scans from the latest V-Jump showcasing all of the new characters so far for the game, including:

  • Tapion
  • Metal Coola
  • Janenba (pre-transformation)
  • Hildegarn (post-transformation)
  • Tullece
  • Tullece (Ôzaru)

We also get a view of parts of the new combo system, which reminds me a lot of the Meteo system in Final Bout... to some degree, anyway.

19 June 2006

Podcast Episode #0031 — Live From AnimeNext!
VegettoEX @ 10:23 pm EDT -- Episode #0031 of the podcast is available for download! We recorded a live episode at AnimeNext 2006 this year, with a nice group of visitors and fans of the site, forum, and podcast. We chatted about all the normal items, and just had a blast. Definitely check it out.

Sparking! NEO Screens (Tapion, Hildegarn, Etc.)
VegettoEX @ 7:24 pm EDT -- Jeuxactu.com is hosting several new images from the upcoming Sparking! NEO. Included in the screens you can see Tapion, Hildegarn (in his final form), and the big ol' Janenba (pre-transformation). Very awesome stuff.

Battle Stadium D.O.N. TV Spot... NEW SONG!
VegettoEX @ 6:10 pm EDT -- The official TV spot for Battle Stadium D.O.N. has (of course) found its way to YouTube. In addition to it simply looking awesome, you may hear and read something interesting.

That's right, folks... new theme song!

It appears to be performed by both Hironobu Kageyama (DragonBall Z) and Hiroshi Kitadani (One Piece). No soundtracks or CD singles seem to be up for order anywhere, but with the game coming out next month (July 20th), we're sure to see it sooner than later.

18 June 2006

We're Back! + Super DragonBall Z Trailer
VegettoEX @ 3:54 pm EDT -- Well, there's certainly no debate about it being "Super" vs "Chou" anymore :P. The official trailer for Super DragonBall Z has been released, and it showcases so many amazing things, it's almost disgusting. Alternate outfits include Goku in his Yardrat clothing, adult Chi-Chi with her child outfit (the pink with razor-helmet), and so much more. Some crazy new moves are shown, and...

<fanboy> Oh, excuse me... I just peed my pants. All is well in the world. </fanboy>

You check check out the trailer over on YouTube (I hate to link to that site for videos, but it's convenient). The 2005 version of "CHA-LA HEAD-CHA-LA" can be heard in the background.

Remember kids, the game is due out in Japan for the PS2 on June 29th, and has been pretty much solidified for an American release in July.

We're back from the con, if you can't tell! Read all about it over in this forum post, and expect the podcast recorded at the convention in the next day or so!

Our Red Ribbon Army contest has ended! We will be announcing the winners soon!

15 June 2006

We're Off To AnimeNext!
VegettoEX @ 7:19 am EDT -- AnimeNext! Be there or... be without us! We'll be out at the convention this weekend doing all sorts of things, so be sure to drop by and say hello. We'll be recording a live episode of our podcast Saturday morning after the AMV contest screening (tentatively scheduled to get out around 11 am). See you there!

Don't forget, your contest entry is due this weekend!!!

11 June 2006

Podcast Episode #0030 + Tons of News!
VegettoEX @ 9:50 pm EDT -- Episode #0030 of the podcast is available for download! In addition to all the gaming news and regular segments, this week we brought on guest Andrew "Deluxe" Kenney, who is presently teaching over in Japan, to discuss today's Japanese children and their exposure to and experiences with DragonBall, a show that's far older than any of them. You definitely don't want to miss this one!

Also, we talk about our plans for AnimeNext this coming weekend... if you're coming, get in on the talks and let us know!

According to Anime News Network and the man's official site, Tôru Furuya (Yamcha) will be at Anime Expo this year! Man, they've gotten Ryô Horikawa (Vegeta) in the past, too! *shakes fist*

Also, to further add to the confusion about FUNimation's plans for the rest of the so-called "Ultimate Uncut Edition" and the news about a complete "season one" boxset, FUNimation's official DBZ website is listing volume 10 ("The Saiyan Prince") with a date of July 11th, and volume 11 ("Goku's Best Shot") with a date of September 5th. Oh, man...

Advance Adventure Updates
VegettoEX @ 6:28 pm EDT -- Gamestop is changed with a shipping date of June 9th (Friday), now. Huh. Amazon's listing (which doesn't have the new cover art) doesn't have a street date, but has it listed as available and shipping in 2-3 days. If you've been able to pick it up already anywhere (in the US, that is... we know it's been out in Japan and Europe for ages!), let us know.

05 June 2006

US Advance Adventure Out Early...?
VegettoEX @ 7:43 pm EDT -- Gamestop is suddenly showing a ship date for Advance Adventure (OK, Advanced Adventure) of June 6th, which means it will be available in stores on the 7th (Wednesday). Strange! Well, we'll certainly find out soon!

04 June 2006

Podcast Episode #0029
VegettoEX @ 1:30 pm EDT -- Episode #0029 of the podcast is available for download! Everyone loves DVD and video game news! Everyone also loves a good excuse to talk about all the things that DBGT did so poorly... so join us!

03 June 2006

Plethora of Video Game News!
VegettoEX @ 8:30 pm EDT -- Leave it up to DragonBall to have more gaming news than you can shake a stick at. Let's just get right into it.

In case you haven't heard, Tullece will indeed be making his first appearance as a playable video game character, showing up in Sparking! NEO. Very exciting. Jeux-France is hosting an image from the latest V-Jump showcasing not only Tullece, but his apparentÔzaru transformation! Whoa!

Oh, but that's not all. In addition to the titles and releases we already knew, our forum member Mike found a few listings on Gamestop for the domestic releases of a few games. Rather than go through it all one-by-one, let's just update our big chart!

Title
System
Country
Date

Advance Adventure
(Advanced Adventure)

GBA USA 06/13/06
Super DragonBall Z PS2 Japan 06/29/06
Super DragonBall Z PS2 USA 07/18/06
Battle Stadium D.O.N. PS2
Gamecube
Japan 07/20/06
Sparking! NEO PS2
Revolution
Japan Fall '06
Sparking! NEO
(Budokai Tenkaichi 2)
PS2 USA 10/17/06
Sparking! NEO
(Tenkaichi NEO)
Wii USA 03/30/07

To break down the important information, it looks like both the domestic releases of Super DragonBall Z and Sparking! NEO are coming in at a very affordable $39.99 price point. Nice. In addition to that, Advance Adventure is sporting some great new art:

Gamestop's listing the PS2 version as Budokai Tenkaichi 2, with the Wii version (for $60) as Tenkaichi NEO. Interesting. There is still no official Japanese release date for the game. One has to assume September/October (the last game came out approximately two weeks earlier in Japan than it did in the US).

01 June 2006

Podcast Episode #0028
VegettoEX @ 12:00 am EDT -- Episode #0028 of the podcast is (finally) available for download! If you're reading this, the site's back up, and you can actually get your hands on the episode :P. Sorry for the delay! Additional information can, as always, be found in the respective forum thread for the episode, with all links on the "Podcast" page.

There's a lot of news to catch up on, so give us a day or so to re-collect our thoughts! ^^;;
