DragonBall: Episode 014
(Originally aired 28 May 1986)

悟空のライバル?参上!!
"Gokû no Raibaru? Sanjô!!"
("Goku's Rival? He's Here!!")

Chapter 024 Begins:
"Kamesennin no Shugyôryô" / "The Price of Kame-Sen'nin's Training"

Canon Segment: 1 Minute, 8 Seconds

Goku, having parted ways with Bulma and the others, now heads toward Kame-Sen'nin's place to further his training. Along the way, he stops at his own home to change his clothes and pick up a few things. Once he has all of his things, he hops back on Kinto-Un. He realizes he is hungry, but decides he will just have the old man feed him.

Filler Segment: 2 Minutes, 18 Seconds

Far away in a jungle, Bulma's plane crashes, but luckily, the gang makes it out okay with no injuries aside from a small wound to Bulma's ankle. Yamcha says they have no other Capsules, and thus no easy way of returning to civilization. This area begins to worry Oolong, and upon seeing a large pterodactyl, Bulma soon agrees that they should get out of here. They all begin running once they hear a scream, despite the fact that Yamcha is sure it came from a human. He was right: the scream had come from a small boy, who smugly dashes through the jungle and kicks over some trees.

Canon Segment: 4 Minutes, 16 Seconds

Kinto-Un eventually reaches Kame House, where Goku attempts to make his arrival quite known. When he gets no response, however, he decides to peek into the windows to see if the old man is even home. It turns out he is home, though completely hypnotized by the women on an exercise program on TV. When Goku can not get his attention even from inside the house, he decides to try yelling directly into Kame-Sen'nin's ear, and it works. Goku tries to explain that he has come for training, but the old man tells him to wait as he goes back to watching his program. Goku then says he is hungry, so Kame-Sen'nin points him to the refrigerator. Goku is confused by the strange box, but opens it up, commenting that it is "like winter" inside.

The exercise program comes to an end, so Kame-Sen'nin gets up and turns his attention to Goku. He finds that the boy has completely cleaned out the week's worth of food he had in the refrigerator (even the butter!). Goku reminds him that he came here for training, as he had been promised when last they met. Kame-Sen'nin suddenly begins looking around, and becomes disappointed when he realizes Goku did not bring the "pafupafu girl" with him.

Filler Segment: 1 Minute, 34 Seconds

Bulma and the others are now trekking through a desert. She can not believe they have not reached the city yet, since it was supposed to be just straight to the north. Yamcha has Pu'er change into a compass, which tells them they have been going directly south. Bulma's wound begins acting up, so Yamcha wraps a piece of his clothes around it. Meanwhile, they notice what appears to be a sandstorm in the distance. In reality, it is the small boy from the jungle again, dashing through the sands while proclaiming his desire to become stronger.

Canon Segment: 2 Minutes, 40 Seconds

Kame-Sen'nin tells Goku that his training is strict, and that he will not train him for free. He wants Goku to bring him a "pichipichi gal" before he will train him. Goku thinks it sounds simple and prepares to go search, but Kame-Sen'nin stops him to make sure that he understands what a pichipichi gal is. Of course, Goku does not, so the old man attempts to go into details... which goes over Goku's head. The boy prepares to leave anyway, until Kame-Sen'nin inquires about his tail. "It was there, but then it went somewhere." With that, Goku flies off on his cloud, leaving the old man to ponder what a strange boy he is. He then heads inside to get dressed up for the gal that will arrive. After a while, he hears Goku returning, and rushes outside excitedly to greet a very large woman holding dumbbells. Goku says she is really healthy!

Chapter 024 Ends

Filler Segment: 14 Seconds

The small boy from the jungle and desert is now about to set sail across the sea in a small boat.

Chapter 025 Begins
"Raibaru? Sanjô!!" / "A Rival? He's Here!!"

Canon Segment: 7 Minutes, 51 Seconds

Kame-Sen'nin can not believe Goku's taste in women (or lack thereof, rather), and wants to give him a test. He holds up two pictures of women, but Goku has trouble deciding which looks better. Kame-Sen'nin instead just points to the more attractive one and tells Goku to get a gal like this. Goku then sets off again, so the old man hides behind the house in case the boy brings back another weirdo. Time passes, and Goku returns again. This time, the gal is small and attractive, so Kame-Sen'nin wants to begin Goku's "training" immediately.

The first lesson is to retrieve that girl's panties. Goku does not know what that means, but goes to ask. He comes back to Kame-Sen'nin and relays that she says she is wearing nothing but her shirt. After cleaning up his nosebleed, Kame-Sen'nin realizes he will have to take care of things personally. He walks over and nervously greets her, when he notices that she is a mermaid! He thinks that mermaids still have breasts, but gets punched when he asks about them. Goku gets it now: panties ("panchii") means punch ("panchi").

Before Kame-Sen'nin can send Goku off to find yet another gal that is not part fish, they notice the other boy's boat approaching the island. He stops short of the island, and gracefully jumps ashore... getting his head stuck in the sand. After Goku pulls him out, he introduces himself as Kuririn, from a village far to the east. He wishes to receive training, but Kame-Sen'nin tells him there is no chance. Kuririn then tries to persuade him with some dirty magazines. After looking through them, Kame-Sen'nin decides he will train Kuririn for the same price as Goku: a pichipichi gal. Kuririn knows just the type to get, so the old man tells him to go with Goku on Kinto-Un to find one. When Kuririn attempts to hop onto the cloud, he falls straight through, so Kame-Sen'nin realizes this boy must have impure intentions. Kuririn insists that is not so, and explains that he just wants to get strong to impress girls. Kame-Sen'nin tells him that is impure.

Chapter 025 Ends

Filler Segment: 33 Seconds

Kuririn begins begging, and attempts to further persuade Muten-Rôshi by opening up his sack and showing him even more dirty magazines. The old man excitedly looks through them all, seeming to accept the boy's gifts.

MISCELLANEOUS:

There is a panel at the beginning of Chapter 024, while Goku travels towards his home, where Goku is wearing the clothes he would change into once he got home, instead of what he should be wearing at the time (Oolong's pants). The anime corrects this!

Goku's trip to Kame House from his own home is, unsurprisingly, much more detailed in the anime than the manga.

Kame-Sen'nin's shirt has a Pennzoil logo on his shirt in the manga, but in the anime, the logo is replaced by a plain color patch.

The brief glimpse of Kuririn eating on the boat does not appear in the manga.
