DragonBall: Episode 004
(Originally aired 19 March 1986)

人さらい妖怪ウーロン
"Hitosarai Yôkai Ûron"
("The Kidnapping Monster, Oolong")

Filler Segment: 1 minute, 18 seconds

A few days after meeting Kame-Sen'nin, Goku and Bulma travel along the road on their cloud and bike, respectively. Bulma begins yelling at Goku about the way he flies his cloud; the lack of attention to her own driving causes her to crash her bike and hurt herself. Of course, this is all Goku's fault, she says. Goku lands and inspects one of their Dragon Balls that had fallen out due to the crash.

It is glowing, so he suspects the fifth Dragon Ball must be nearby.

Goku then notices a "bunch of houses" nearby. The two of them realize that the Dragon Ball must be in this village, so they decide to go check it out.

Once they enter the village, however, Bulma says that it is awfully quiet, and doubts anyone lives in it. Goku, however, insists that he senses people here.

Chapter 005 begins:
"Ûron Arawaru!" / "Oolong Appears!"

To test Goku's theory, Bulma calls out to ask if anyone is here, but gets no response. She doubts there is really anyone here, but at least the Dragon Ball is, according to the radar. Goku is certain there are people about, so he bangs on one of the doors. When no one answers, he decides to break in. As it turns out, there is someone inside, who hits Goku over the head with an axe. This angers Goku, who furiously asks what he is doing and prepares to fight back. The man deeply apologizes, addressing Goku as "Oolong-sama". This leaves Goku and Bulma very confused.

The rest of the village suddenly begins to come out of their houses, gathering outside of this man's house. His daughter tends to the bump on Goku's head, which prompts Goku to pat-pat her crotch and conclude that she is a girl. Bulma promptly slugs him for this. She then decides to ask the man who this "Oolong" is. He explains that Oolong is a terrible, shape-shifting monster that has taken many village girls captive and is coming back today to take his daughter.

Goku suggests they just beat him up. Bulma then pulls out a Dragon Ball and asks the man if he has a ball like this. He doesn't, but an old woman has one: Liu Xing Qiu. Bulma proposes a deal, where if they can have the Dragon Ball, they will get rid of Oolong. The old woman doubts a girl like Bulma can face Oolong. Bulma tries to point to the one who will fight... but he is busy pat-patting the old woman. The man says that if they kill Oolong, they will never find the kidnapped girls.

Bulma has a plan. Goku will pretend to be the man's daughter, get taken to his hideout, and beat him up there, in turn rescuing the girls.

As Goku gets into his dress, Oolong makes his way into the village. Bulma tells the villagers to hide and leave the rest to them. She then tells Goku she is counting on him and runs indoors, prompting him to wonder she meant by "we". Oolong approaches shortly after as a tuxedo-wearing oni. They talk a bit until Oolong notices "her" shaking, thinking this form must be too scary (though in actuality, Goku needs to pee). He transforms into a handsome young man, and asks how "she" like this.

Bulma suddenly comes out the house and introduces herself, revealing both her age (16) and her bust size (85cm). Oolong then considers whether he should take the hot one that is older than him, or the pretty younger one... or better yet, both of them... until he notices Goku relieving himself on a nearby tree. He goes over to investigate how "she" does it standing up, and is horrified when he discovers why. This deception angers him enough to transform again.

This time Oolong becomes a bull, and informs Goku of how scary and strong he is. Bulma suddenly comes to her senses and runs back inside. The man realizes the plan is ruined, but at least Bulma will become Oolong's bride instead of his daughter. Bulma refutes this idea, and instead tells Goku to just beat Oolong up without killing him so they can find his hideout and the girls. Goku happily tosses his dress to the side, and encourages Oolong to fight.

Chapter 005 ends

Chapter 006 begins:
"Ûron Taiketsu Son Gokû" / "Oolong vs Son Goku"

Oolong tells Goku that now is his chance to apologize, and reminds him of how scary and strong he is. Goku wants him to stop all this talking and just get on with his attack. Oolong tells him how foolish he is, but Goku just wants to fight. Oolong prepares to finally start, until he notices the clock. He tells Goku to wait and runs just outside of the village, where he transforms into a pig. Goku thinks he's trying to get away and runs after him...

But all he finds is a pig whistling innocently just outside the village. Oolong the pig tells Goku that the bull went off in another direction.

Oolong is quite relieved that no one discovered that his true form is a cute pig. It is explained that he can only stay transformed for five minutes at a time, and then he must rest for one minute before he can do it again. Goku then returns to the village, unable to find Oolong. Oolong notices one minute is up, and realizes he will have to transform into something even better. He challenges Goku again, as a soup-wielding robot this time. He threatens to put Goku into this soup and eat him. Goku is not phased. Oolong's shock at this causes him to accidentally burn himself on the soup, which he blames Goku for. Meanwhile, a little boy shoots Oolong in the back of the head with a slingshot. The boy's mother quickly drags him away as Oolong clutches his head in pain.

Goku realizes that Oolong may be pretty weak. Oolong denies this, and asks how strong Goku is. Goku tells him he is quite strong because his grandpa taught him Kung Fu. Oolong wants to test him by laying out some bricks for him to break, which Goku is strong enough to break with one finger. Upon seeing this, Oolong transforms into a bat, and surrenders as he begins to fly away. Bulma yells at Goku to go after him, so he calls for Kinto-Un and chases the bat. The villagers then discuss the fact that Oolong was actually pretty weak.

Oolong realizes he cannot go back to that village anymore, just as Goku catches up to him. He turns into a rocket to gain even more speed, but his transformation time runs up shortly after. Goku swoops down to catch the pig before falling to the ground. The scene cuts to the village, where Goku makes Oolong apologize. A woman asks if the girls are safe. Oolong responds, "Yes, very..." Bulma demands that he lead them to his house, and so the entire village follows Oolong to his home, which turns out to be a sort of palace. The girls are not only safe, but living the fancy life. Oolong explains that these girls are too demanding, which is why he wanted a quiet one. He really wants them to go home. The old woman then gives Bulma the Liu Xing Qiu, bringing their total up to five Dragon Balls.

THIS AND THAT:
n/a
ALTERED SCENE:

At the very beginning of the episode, Bulma crashes her bike, and suspects that there is a nearby Dragon Ball because of one of their Dragon Balls glowing. However, in the manga, Bulma is shown sitting on her clearly functional bike, meaning she did not crash it. Also in the manga, she instead checks the Dragon Radar to find out that the Dragon Ball is near.

When Oolong fantasizes about pafupafu, the girl is wearing a shirt in the anime, but not in the manga.

The way Bulma finally receives the Dragon Ball is different in each version. In the manga, the old woman instead hands it over as all of the villagers walk toward Oolong's home, right after the little girl's father comments on Goku's skill (which occurs in both versions). The dialogue is slightly different as well.

MISSING SCENE:
There is a tiny bit of dialogue in the manga that was not animated. While returning to the capsule house from the beach, Goku points out that it was a good thing helping that turtle after all, and Bulma responds that it was just pure chance.
MISCELLANEOUS:

When Bulma proposes her deal to defeat Oolong for the village, the dialogue is extended a bit in the anime. This extra dialogue includes discussion of Goku's strength, and the kidnapped girls' parents speaking up and pleading for their rescue.

The canon portion of the episode actually ends when Oolong tells the villagers he wants them to take the girls home. The old woman gives Bulma the Dragon Ball at an earlier point in the manga (see Altered Scenes).
