30 March 2008
VegettoEX @ 4:17 pm EST -- Episode #0122 of the podcast is available for download! This week we took a total fanboy and fangirl approach to the news of JAM Project coming to perform at Otakon 2008, and developed our own ideal set-list of DBZ-only songs we want performed live. Listen in for sound samples, Julian's DBZ ABCs, some good e-mail responses, and a whole lot more. Definitely check it out.
The new "Tidbit" we mention during the show is also now available. A complete analysis of the DragonBall GT ending can be read through, which is actually based on Episode #0091 of the podcast where we discussed the same thing. Now you can read through with screen-shots, though!
Big thanks to everyone who helped go through the content with us before-hand.
VegettoEX @ 2:49 pm EST -- Just found this over on Kotaku, and being who I am, had to make note of it here.
When you see the below pair of sneakers (being re-released by Puma, apparently)...
... do you think of anyone in particular?
I thought so.
We'll have a podcast episode for you a little later today. |
29 March 2008
VegettoEX @ 4:41 pm EST -- Our YouTube profile has had the video up since yesterday, so maybe subscribing to it would be a pretty good idea! I've done one more comparison clip for the original version (The Magic Begins) versus the "remastered" version (Ultimate Edition) of the Chinese live-action movie. As you can see, this time we'll be taking a look at the introduction of the Kame-Sen'nin character.
[ Chinese Live-Action Movie Comparison: Clip # 3 ]
Good times, man... good times. |
28 March 2008
VegettoEX @ 4:07 pm EST -- Woohoo! The amazing JAM Project will be performing at Otakon 2008 (which takes place in Baltimore, Maryland), as officially announced just a bit earlier today on the convention's website. If you're not already in the know, JAM Project consists of an amazing group of Japanese performers, including Hironobu Kageyama himself.
We don't know which particular songs they'll be performing during their concert (which you know I'll be attending), and/or if any solo material will be allowed to enter the mix. Here's hoping for at least "CHA-LA HEAD-CHA-LA"...! I've seen Kageyama and Endo perform it together many times, sometimes even with Kitadani... *gets fanboy-antsy*
C'mon, c'mon, big money, big money, no whammies, JAM! |
27 March 2008
VegettoEX @ 9:29 am EST -- The official Fox Movies website has updated their DragonBall listing with the following info:
As you have come to know, we do not feel the need to update about the movie every time someone puts up a new blog entry somewhere saying they had a good time on the set one day, but a quasi-official release date is something different!
In other (completely unrelated) news, Donny Clay has yet another blog up on IGN, this time dedicated to (what else?), the upcoming Burst Limit for the PS3 and Xbox 360. Lots of "we" stuff going on in there that I tend to get fussy about. |
26 March 2008
VegettoEX @ 4:38 pm EST -- Atari has released another press release noting that they have failed to come into compliance within the time period granted to them by NASDAQ, and as such are subject to delisting from the stock exchange.
For realz this time, maybe. No, really. For serious.
They said they are going to appeal it, but quite frankly, they have been given so many chances (this time to maintain a certain market value by March 20th, which they failed to do)... I just don't see this ending well for the company. |
25 March 2008
VegettoEX @ 5:48 pm EST -- We know that as much as you like reading about and listening about DragonBall, you do enjoy that whole "viewing" thing, as well. We're here to help, yet again!
[ Chinese Live-Action Movie Comparison: Clip # 2 ]
We're finally getting around to doing another one of these. This time we took a look at the fight between Goku Monkey Boy and Yamcha Westwood, which includes quite an "interesting" addition in the "remastered" version. Honestly, you have to see it to believe it.
Are you guys 'n gals into these comparison clips? I may do a couple more... If you're looking to purchase the movie(s), they're both still available on Amazon for $12.99 a pop (original / remastered).
[ The DBZ You've Never Seen: DBZ "Arrival" Promo ]
This is actually just a really short promo (actually, more of a catching-up-recap) that plays immediately before the opening theme ("Rock the Dragon" "Main Title") on the first-ever home video/DVD release of FUNimation's 1996 dub of DBZ, Arrival. Of particular note is the fact that Masako Nozawa's fighting noises are kept for a little bit, followed by Ian Corlett closing out the scene with some muttering to himself, despite the fact that Ian Corlett was long-gone as Goku by the time FUNimation got around to dubbing DBZ movie 1. Of course, it will never top that 1995 DB commercial...
We'll be doing some updates to our "Video" page soon to reflect that fact that many of these videos are stream-only, while much of the older material (and some going forward, such as game intros) are fully downloadable. Enjoy! |
24 March 2008
VegettoEX @ 8:47 am EST -- Episode #0121 of the podcast is available for download! Sorry it's slightly late, but you know how things tend to go on Zombie Jesus Day. This week we did an extensive update to the "Rumor Guide" (without telling anyone! Haha!), and decided it would be fun to discuss all of these updates on the show. You'll hear a ton of audio samples mixed in, including one from the amazing SUPER BATTLE IN THE WORLD English dub of DBZ movie three from the UK. No idea what we're talking about? You'll just have to listen in for more details. We hit every single section of the guide with at least one little update. Definitely check it out.

VegettoEX @ 9:21 pm EST -- Bandai announced this week that they will be releasing an all-new collectible card game (do the kids play these, anymore?) this summer.
(CYPRESS, CA – MARCH 18, 2008) – With the return of original toy manufacturer Bandai America Inc. to the Dragon Ball Z franchise, fans can further celebrate with the highly anticipated debut of an all-new Dragon Ball collectible card game this Summer from Bandai Collectible Games. For the first time ever, characters from all three action-packed Dragon Ball sagas will be incorporated, as well as exclusive and dynamic artwork. Goku fever is sure to reach an all-time high, particularly since Bandai America has new Dragon Ball Z action figures hitting retail this month.
“Bandai’s Dragon Ball card game has already seen huge success throughout Asia and Europe, and we’re finally thrilled to introduce our new CCG to North America, along with a lineup of action figures and other toys throughout the year,” said Danny Satyapan, director of Bandai America’s cards division. “Fans everywhere have definitely been responding to the stunning new Dragon Ball images that are exclusive to our cards, and our game system has been getting rave reviews from U.S. players.”
The Dragon Ball franchise consists of Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball GT, and is one of the most successful anime properties of all time. It was born in Japan as a manga comic by the famed artist, Akira Toriyama (who also helped to create the new Blue Dragon property, another Bandai America toy line launching Fall 2008). The Dragon Ball Z saga first arrived in the U.S. in 1996 and continues to air to this day on Cartoon Network.
The Dragon Ball Collectible Card Game features a game system similar to Bandai America’s hit Naruto CCG, which has been a huge success among fans. As a result, the Dragon Ball card game is sure to appeal and be familiar to the legions of Naruto enthusiasts. The compatibility of these two CCGs will undoubtedly result in incredible card game battles between these two very popular licenses.
The Dragon Ball Collectible Card Game fuses the exciting action from all three sagas by allowing players to battle against their opponents with their favorite characters like Goku and Vegeta. Debuting July 18th, the “Warriors Return” Starter Decks have a SRP of $8.99 and Booster Packs retail for $3.99. Bandai America is supporting the game with a strong organized play program that will reward tournament participation at conventions and hobby retailers with promotional Dragon Ball Z cards, game mats and other exclusive prizing. For more information about Bandai’s Collectible Games, log onto www.BandaiCG.com.
So it comes out July 18th, it will feature all three TV series with super special nifty artwork, and starter packs will cost $3.99. It sounds like they want to set up competition with themselves and their Naruto CCG line. I wonder if that business model will work out for them...? |
18 March 2008
VegettoEX @ 8:38 pm EST -- Slickmasterfunk left us a note letting us know that IGN has put up a new interview with Donny Clay (producer-something-or-other at Atari) with some information about the upcoming Burst Limit for the PS3 and Xbox 360. The big pieces of information are that 21 characters will be available to play on a meager 5 stages.
Really? Only five stages? Hopefully these will be gigantic stages that have all sorts of mini-locales within them, but that's not very comforting to hear.
There's also a gameplay trailer featuring an instrumental/karaoke version of the game's Japanese vocal opening theme, "Kiseki no Honô yo Moeagare!!". We'll assume this means that the instrumental of the song will at least be featured in the opening for the domestic release of the game, rather than a completely different piece of irrelevancy. |

VegettoEX @ 8:07 pm EST -- Episode #0120 of the podcast is available for download! Everything's back together on the server, and we're right back on schedule. This week, we're digging ourselves an absolutely ridiculous hole by talking about DragonBall AF. While we do give a little background on where the "rumor" (can you even call it simply a "rumor" anymore, though?) came from, what we're really discussing is a web-comic/doujinshi by a Japanese fan named Toyble.
This project takes elements from all the different rumors over the years (like the name "Xicor", for example) and creates an all-new storyline that takes place some time after the events of DragonBall GT. We brought on Desire Campbell to discuss the project with us, since he's (as I would describe him) the ring-leader of an English fan-translation that's been going on! That's right, you can read along with the story right in the comfort of your computer chair. Definitely check it out.
UPDATE: Since people seem to be missing the links on where to find and read this manga, here is the information you need...
(1) It first comes out on Toyble's own blog
(2) It then gets translated & released on Desire Campbell's site
One last thing for the night... For all you budget-conscious DBZ fans out there, my local Target had both the original Budokai Tenkaichi (PS2) and Budokai Tenkaichi 2 (PS2) over in the clearance area for $9.98 each. While those games were irrelevant to me since I own the Sparking! games on JP PS2 already, I was able to score Shadow of the Colossus for the same $9.98. In other words, go to Target and see what you can find for cheap :P. The games aren't even listed on their website, so hop in the car and go! |
12 March 2008
VegettoEX @ 7:00 am EST -- Episode #0119 of the podcast is available for download! Holy crap, we're back! After sorting out all of our server issues, we can finally get the site (and feed) posted with the new episode. If you check out the forums on a regular basis, you probably already caught it, but now it will be filling up all those nice little RSS aggregators, as well. This week, I finally came off the pain-killers and hastily threw together a discussion about staying home sick and the weird things you do during those times. Basically, we talked about 1999 and the FUNimation DBZ Season 3 tapes coming out. Julian's DBZ ABCs, some releases, and a great e-mail round out the episode for everyone. Sorry it's a little late (sorta)! Definitely check it out.
NOTE: I don't think any of the e-mails you guys have sent to the show over the last week have come in. If you sent in any questions, comments, suggestions, etc. to the podcast account, please re-send. Thanks!
Also, Abigail wrote in to let us know that both Takeshi Kusao (Trunks) and my main man Ryusei Nakao (Freeza/Coola) are going to be guests at Animazement this year. Holy crap holy crap holy crap I'm 12 again fanboy moment. D-do... do I go...? Not only them, but Kotono Mitsuishi and Akira Kamiya... |
06 March 2008
VegettoEX @ 8:35 pm EDT -- For those of you no longer about to rock, join with me in sadness as CDJapan cancels all of our pre-orders for the upcoming "Super Survivor" CD single. It's no longer in their site's database, and while Lantis claims it's coming out later this summer, this is still very disappointing.
|
05 March 2008
VegettoEX @ 7:17 am EDT -- This one's coming in from all over the internet last night and this morning. According to a couple different sources, the upcoming American live action adaptation of DragonBall won't be making its way to theaters until 03 April 2009, pushed back from 15 August 2008.
|
03 March 2008
VegettoEX @ 9:24 pm EDT -- Futabatei Shimei left us a note saying that Lantis has delayed the release of the upcoming "Super Survivor" CD single / mini-album (it was originally supposed to come out April 9th). It's not quite indefinite, but it's not until sometime during the early summer; there's no actual set date. D'oh!
In addition to that, Columbia has delayed the release of the upcoming 13-CD Chôzenshû set to April 2nd (it was originally supposed to come out March 26th). That's not too bad of a delay, all things considered.
VegettoEX @ 7:09 pm EDT -- Episode #0118 of the podcast is available for download! Sorry it's a day late, but as you'll hear in the actual episode, the internet connection here at Daizenshuu EX headquarters has been... well, it hasn't existed much over the last week or so. Yikes. So while Julian was unfortunately thusly not able to join us for the show, we do have another amazing round in our on-going "Manga Review of Awesomeness" for you. Jeff popped in to do Volume 14 with us, which concludes the Piccolo-Daimaô arc and gets on in to the 23rd Tenka-ichi Budôkai. Good times! Definitely check it out.
In other news, it seems like last week's absurd rumor has actually come true! Phil Harrison, the former head of Sony Worldwide Studios, has... WTF?!... become the "Directeur Général Délégué" over at Infogrames (who you will remember is the parent company of Atari).
We're still trying to catch up on all sorts of things from the last week, so if there have been any other major developments anywhere, don't be afraid to drop us a line. Later! |
