New DragonBall Anime Guidebook in Japan
VegettoEX @ 10:05 pm EDT -- Julian's getting DSL installed at home, and his dial-up isn't working right now... so it's up to me to provide you with Japanese merch news! Aiya!

Coming out this Friday (2 July 2004) is a new guidebook to the first DragonBall TV series (entitled DragonBall: Tenka-ichi Densetsu). Here's its entry over on the Shueisha site.

What can you expect? Similar to the Son Gokû Densetsu DBZ anime guidebook released a while back (which focused mainly on Goku, himself, as the title would indicate), probably a guide that focuses on the various Tenka-ichi Budôkai (along with some other neat stuff).

Clocking in at 224 pages, it'll run you ¥1,300 (around $12) and, again, it comes out this Friday (2 July 2004).

Yeah, I didn't do "Ask VegettoEX" last weekend... which was supposed to be a reflection on the questions asked at AnimeNext... dunno if I'll be able to get to this... *sigh*... hopefully be able to do a regular one this coming weekend!

I Want Less News About the Live-Action Movie...
VegettoEX @ 10:59 am EDT -- For those of you just finding the site after AnimeNext... welcome! Be sure to check around and find all the things we talked about... and have fun!

With that out of the way... I hate reporting these things, because every damn piece of information contradicts itself. *sigh* As reported on comingsoon.net:

Screenwriter Ben Ramsey ("The Big Hit") has signed to adapt Dragonball Z for the big screen for 20th Century Fox, reports Variety. Dragonball Z was adapted from the "Dragonball" manga created by Akira Toriyama and later developed into a Japanese anime series.

"Dragonball Z" follows the adventures of an adult humanoid alien who's just discovered that he was sent to Earth to blend in and destroy our population but instead elects to protect it from an oncoming alien onslaught.

Ramsey recently wrote the adaptation of Marvel's Luke Cage at Sony's Columbia Pictures, as well as Static for Columbia-based producer Neal Moritz.

I repeat... I hate this news. Nothing makes sense. Fox doesn't want to make the movie, yet they've optioned it, but keep denying it, and now there's a screen writer? WTF? STOP. "The Buzz" has been updated with this new "info." Thanks to forum friend Nyogo for the tip.

This coming weekend's "Ask VegettoEX" is going to be a reflection on the questions asked at our DB panel at AnimeNext, so that should be fun! Also, I've thrown up some new AMVs... if you know where to go, you can get them already ^_~. Otherwise, hold on until this weekend and they'll be up.

"Ask VegettoEX" Updated + Some Other Minor Things
VegettoEX @ 4:50 pm EDT -- "Ask VegettoEX" has been updated! I wasn't planning on doing so today (just been way too busy), but I realized... it's the one-year anniversary of that section! Egads! I hadn't realized I'd been answering these questions for an entire year now. Man, time's flying. Soon I'll be realizing I've been running the site for a decade. Hah!

Correction on DVD information... "Rejection" will be the second volume in the DBGT "Lost Episodes" release series (as seen over on RightStuf), and the Tien Shinhan (*ugh*) release date will indeed be 28 September. "DVD Guide" has all been updated with correct information.

Also, special thanks to the Dranet folks for providing two new mirrors for Neko Majin Z 3, which is still up for download.

AnimeNext is next weekend! If anyone lives in the area, come check it out. Myself, Julian, Meri, & Maggie will be running the "DragonBall: 20 Years of Fandom" panel Saturday at 1 pm. We'd love to see you there. Hopefully we'll come back with lots of pictures and stories!

Gotta run~

Two Rumors + More Budokai 3 Characters!
VegettoEX @ 12:38 pm EDT -- The "Rumor Guide" has been updated with two rumors; one was the Kuriza one that got killed in some updating. Heh. Whoops. So here they are!

Also, the Tien Shinhan boxset finally has a release date! Look for it to drop on 28 September 2004. Anime on DVD also noted some title called "DBGT Lost Episode Vol. 1: Rejection." Uhh... we've got an image already over in the "DVD Guide" that clearly shows the cover of the first volume called "Reaction" with a street date of 13 July 2004. Not sure what's up with that. More as it comes.

And finally, the juicy news... more Budokai 3 characters revealed! Here's who we know for sure will be new (or re-added) to the game:

  • First-form Cell
  • Third-form Freeza
  • Coola
  • Broli
  • Gogeta
  • SSJ4 Goku
  • SSJ4 Vegeta
  • SSJ4 Gogeta

Check out the discussion, images, and a video clip over in our discussion thread concerning the game.

In more fun news, old buddy 707 took some pictures for us of Kuriza in DragonBall Z 2. Apparently if you attach the Freeza's Spaceship capsule when selecting him, when you are defeated the spaceship will appear and drop Kuriza back down in his final form! Kuriza's also got his own custom win poses, as well. Check out all the images over in this discussion thread.

Sorry, there was no "Ask VegettoEX" this weekend, either. Been too busy. Hopefully we'll get one done this coming weekend, and I'm looking into the possibility of doing a "live" session at AnimeNext! w00t~!
