Sparking!
(known as Budokai Tenkaichi outside of Japan)
featured an even larger cast of characters than seen in
DragonBall Z 3 (Budokai 3). Taking an
approach more like that seen in the Super Butôden
games and Final Bout, each different form (or
transformation) of a character is considered its "own"
selectable character; you cannot, say, transform into
SSJ in the middle of a match. This also means, however,
that characters such as fusions can be used from the beginning
to end of a match.
There
are 49 "base" versions of characters to choose
from. From these 49 characters, a grand total of 90 "costumes"
(forms, transformations, etc.) can be chosen in battle.
There are no alternate outfits (other than palette swaps
for 2-player) such as in the DragonBall Z / Budokai
series. To select an alternate form of a character, use
the UP and DOWN arrows to choose the desired form on the
character select screen while highlighting a character.
These
screens all come from a 100%-completed version of the
Japanese release of the game. As the game received a near-simultaneous
release worldwide, there are no extra characters anticipated
to surface.
