The VegettoEX & DBZ Movie 1 Joke Continues...
VegettoEX @ 10:21 pm EST -- It's been an on-going joke how many times I've purchased DBZ movie 1 in all its various forms from a whole bunch of different regions of the world, and was even referenced in the video TeamFourStar made for our AWA panel this year.

Well, one more got added to the mix today, thanks to my buddy Tanooki Kuribo:

That's right. You're looking at the American Laserdisc release from 1997. I don't have an LD player, but dammit, I own the LD release, now! Thanks, bud! :D

Just for the Hell of it, let's count the versions of the movie I've acquired, in no particular order:

  • Fansub VHS
  • Dub VHS (FUNimation/Pioneer; 1997)
  • Subtitled VHS (FUNimation/Pioneer; 1997)
  • Laserdisc (FUNimation/Pioneer; 1997)
  • DVD (FUNimation/Pioneer; 1997)
  • DVD (FUNimation "Ultimate Uncut"; 2005)
  • DVD (FUNimation "First Strike" Box Set; 2006)
  • Dragon Box DVD Set (Toei; 2006)
  • German DVD (Polyband/AB Groupe; 2004)
  • and... taped off of Cartoon Network when they played it for the first time, just to see its censoring(s), and to get Don LaFontaine's trailer narrations

In all honesty, that's not as many as it could be. I haven't gotten around to picking up FUNimation's recent "remastered" version of the movie (either on DVD or Blu-ray), but I probably will in the near future. There's also the (redundant) single R2 release of the movie, which really isn't necessary for me to pick up (besides the spiffy cover art). There are also versions from other countries that I need.

Anyone wanna help...? ^_~

While on the subject of sharing pictures of things that have been obtained, here is the current set-up of little figures around our place after getting a couple new ones at AWA (as mentioned on the last podcast episode):

We'll be back with you soon for some more news and content! Still trying to catch up after being away for a while...!

Podcast Episode #0147 Available! New AMVs!
VegettoEX @ 5:35 pm EST -- Episode #0147 of the podcast is available for download! We are easing our way back into doing the podcast again after a week off, but we've certainly got some content for you. We took a look at three different CDs this week (Burst Limit OST, Dragon '98 Live Special, and Animelody Night), complete with samples from each. Definitely check it out.

In addition to the podcast, I've got some new AMVs!

Dead In Two Episodes
( Download XviD / 22 MB )

DQCF+P
( Download XviD / 71 MB )

You can download both the XviD and/or the H.264 over on their respective AnimeMusicVideos.org entries (check my AMV page for more information), or watch them on YouTube (once I get around to actually tossing them up; check our user page and subscribe!).

Finally, one last bit of news for you:

I heard a couple reports about this, and checked it out for myself. Many Target stores are selling at least the PS3 version of Burst Limit for $29.99 on clearance. Might be a good time to check it out, if you haven't already.

Recovering From AWA!
VegettoEX @ 9:45 pm EST -- Been back in town since Sunday evening, but I suppose you could say that we're still recovering from Anime Weekend Atlanta. We had a very nice time and got to meet a few new people, so all is well and great with the world.

But hey, a lot of you seem to be showing up thanks to the awesome video the guys over at TeamFourStar made for our panel at the convention. Welcome! There's a ton of stuff for you to check out on the website. Browse through all of the sections, but let me immediately point you over to our weekly podcast. We actually interviewed KaiserNeko and Lanipator back on Episode #0135, so that should be right up your alley. Big thanks to those guys for the amazing hard work and all the plugs!

I'm still struggling to follow any and all news that took place over the last half-week or so... please excuse the lack of a podcast and the lack of updates! We'll have a new show for you next weekend, along with some new AMVs (well, one new non-DBZ AMV, and then one DBZ-related trailer!). Look forward to it!

Heading Down to Atlanta!
VegettoEX @ 10:26 pm EST -- Tomorrow night at this time we'll probably be chilling at a restaurant down in Atlanta. Are you going to be there? C'mon down to AWA!

Myself, Meri, and our buddy Jeff will be running at panel in the Video Art Track ("VAT") Friday @ 3 pm. You're totally going to want to check it out. In the event you can't make it to the convention, any and all new AMVs (something DBZ related, too...!) will go online within the next week. We also convinced a couple special friends to throw something together for playing at the panel. Whether they decide to put it online after the con is totally up to them ^_~. We'll also be debuting what is sure to be the biggest video ever in the history of the intertubez at our panel, so be on the lookout for that. In addition to that panel, Meri's got her big Iron Editor competition going down Friday night, and we're going to try and pop in on the podcasting panel with the folks from Anime World Order on Saturday @ 12 noon (according to the pocket schedule on the website).

Unfortunately, we never got around to recording that review of the Burst Limit soundtrack for a podcast episode to go online this weekend. We may actually miss a weekend for the first time in a looooong while! If I remember correctly, one of our first ever misses was also due to AWA. Oh, well. The internet will go on without us for a week. Besides, you've got vgconvos and WTF EX to keep you occupied for a few hours.

I'll leave you with at least some good news:

Yep, the American release of DragonBall DS (called DragonBall Origins) is indeed keeping the original Japanese cover art. The JP release comes out on September 18th, while the American release is looking like November 4th.

14 September 2008

Podcast Episode #0146 Available!
VegettoEX @ 5:35 pm EST -- Episode #0146 of the podcast is available for download! We took a look through volume nineteen of the manga this week (that's DBZ Volume 3 for all you Viz-reading folks). Goku is back, tons of people are dying, and the shizzle has hit the fizzle. In addition to the manga, we cover a good amount of news, Julian's DBZ ABCs (learn all about the surname "Son" this episode!), September's releases, and of course the wonderful e-mails you all send. Definitely check it out.

Here is a brief break-down of some of the news we covered on the show and haven't yet had a chance to put up yet:

Wasted Wisher on our forum sent us a whole metric crap-ton of supposed character model sheets for the upcoming Jump Anime Tour special, Ossu! Kaette Kita Son Gokû to Nakama-tachi!! ("Yo! Son Goku and His Friends Return!!"). While we have no official confirmation from higher-ups at Toei and the like, they're looking pretty good. If they are to believed, we'll be seeing at least one more yet-to-be-revealed villain, "Aka":

Both DragonBall: Origins (known in Japan as DragonBall DS) and DragonBall Z: Infinite World were shown off at Atari's recent press event / gamer's day. You can read all about them over at places like Kotaku and IGN. Things to take away, though? Infinite World does indeed have a selectable Japanese voice cast, and the capsule system from previous Budokai games is back. Additionally, our good buddy Dogasu has put up some thoughts on the Japanese DragonBall DS demo over on our forum.

Infogrames has entered into a partnership with Namco-Bandai, exclusively handling their distribution over in Europe. Infogrames isn't stopping there, however, and expects to strike similar deals with other gaming companies, adding approximately €95 million in additional value to the company.

With all that out of the way, I need to get some plugs done. Episode three of Video Game Conversations is live and ready for consumption over at vgconvos.com. Our good friend Bryce popped over to do the show with us. We hope you enjoy it!

I've also started a new, completely random podcast. It's something I can do whenever I want, about whatever I want, with whoever I want to do it with. It's called WTF EX, and you can find it over at vegettoex.com (that's going to be the central place you can follow along with all the projects I'm working on). For this first episode, I talked about time and project management with Jeff. Totally enthralling material, I'm telling you. Seriously.

Podcast Episode #0145 Available!
VegettoEX @ 9:08 pm EST -- Episode #0145 of the podcast is available for download! We definitely made up for last week's semi-short episode with this one. We brought on our good buddy Desire Campbell to talk about the concept of "canon" as it relates to the Dragon World. How do you actually define it, and what are the various ways you can potentially break it down, especially considering how massive of a franchise it is? We also go over some cute little video game news, Julian's DBZ ABCs, and some great e-mails. Definitely check it out.

On a semi-related note, there's been a ton of podcast recording going on around here lately, so stay tuned for updates on new things to listen to...! :D

DragonBall DS Demo on Nintendo Channel... In Japan!
VegettoEX @ 7:08 am EST -- Aww, those lucky buggers! The upcoming DragonBall DS (known outside Japan as DragonBall: Origins) has had its demo hit the Minna no Nintendo channel... but only in Japan. It sounds like it will only be available until the 17th (the game is due out on the 18th of this month in Japan), and there is no word on a possible release of the demo for any other market.

Also, the third TV spot for the game is available for viewing over on GameTrailers.com. So. Beautiful.
