Hong Kong Live Action Movie Re-Release...?
VegettoEX @ 9:08 pm EDT -- Been getting a lot of e-mails on this one. If you check out this entry over on RightStuf, the listing for the so-called Dragon Ball Ultimate Edition DVD (Hyb) from Tai Seng has a release date of 30 October 2007.

Now, Tai Seng is the distributor for a bunch of Chinese / Hong Kong live action movies, including the infamous DragonBall: The Magic Begins (the live action DB movie from 1989). The original North American printing of the DVD (which was English dub-only) came out in 1999, and is in fact still available on sites like Amazon.

So what is this upcoming release? Judging by the "(Hyb)" in the RightStuf listing, we can make a pretty educated guess that it will be a new release containing both the original Chinese dialogue as well as the hilarious English dub. We'll definitely keep an eye on this one and let you know...

In the meantime, here's a picture to remind you how awesome the movie is:

You know you love it.

Podcast Episode #0091 + Viz News
VegettoEX @ 2:35 pm EDT -- Episode #0091 of the podcast is available for download! I know... three updates in one day?! That's unpossible! But here it is, believe it or not.

This week, we went in-depth with the ending to DragonBall GT. The two big questions that were asked and discussed were: (1) Did Goku die?, and (2) Where did Goku go? / What did Goku become? As Meri mentioned during the episode, this is perhaps the "deepest" you can go with the DragonBall series, so if you've been looking to wax philosophical for a while, this doozy of a conversation is probably right up your alley.

Lots of news was covered, as well, which we should probably go into a little detail with on the main page here.

  • Donny Clay Budokai Tenkaichi 3 Blog @ IGN
Not much to really say here. The guy from Atari whose job we're not entirely sure about is going to be writing up some thoughts from time to time. I really have to hand it to the majority of commentators asking for the Japanese music in the game. Honestly, I didn't think the general fanbase that would respond to this type of blog/article would care about that, so major props! Here's hopin'.

  • Viz Sorta Releases "Neko Majin" Manga
In the October issue of the domestic Shonen Jump, complimenting the Dragon Ball Collector segment (see below), there is a little interview with Akira Toriyama and a translated chapter of Neko Majin Z 5. That's right, they published the very last chapter (with nothing else before it, or hints at a future release of the whole thing). As such, we have taken our translation of Neko Majin Z 5 down from our "Manga Downloads" page. If (when?) Viz announces they will be releasing the rest of the series, we will take the other chapters down individually as appropriate.

  • Viz Sorta Releases "Dragon Ball Collector"
Differing from their stand-alone releases of, for example, a Naruto information book, the October issue of Shonen Jump also includes a little section called "Dragon Ball Collector". Information includes a history of some video games, fusions, the Tenka-ichi Budôkai, action figures, and more.

So there you have it. We stopped our subscription to the domestic Shonen Jump a long time ago, and it appears that this hasn't quite hit shelves across the nation yet. We may do a quick little review of it in a future podcast, so be on the lookout for that. In the meantime, listen it for some commentary on the above news, the ending of DBGT, and so much more. You know the drill. Definitely check it out.

France Movie Boxset Images & Comparisons
VegettoEX @ 10:30 am EDT -- sangofe and everyone on our forum have done a really great job of keeping up with this release over in France. While it's not officially out yet, they've managed to snag some images that a lucky consumer has put up, along with some great comparison images with "DRAGON BOX: THE MOVIES". Packaging, screen shots, etc. can all be found updated in the forum thread right at the top.

The "remastering" seems to be a little better (less-intrusive, more appropriately put) than FUNimation's, but it's still nowhere near the Japanese release.

Check you back later today with more big news and Episode #0091 of the podcast!

Podcast Episode #0090
VegettoEX @ 10:21 pm EDT -- Episode #0090 of the podcast is available for download! The confirmation of Chi-Chi in the game was obviously put up on the site after the episode had been recorded, but since you're reading this, you're certainly all up-to-date, anyway... and that's what's really important. Beyond talking about a bit of Sparking! METEOR news, the main meat of the episode was discussing how some DragonBall songs either pay a little homage to, on in the case of one particular song, outright copy pretty much the entire song. Curious as to what we're talking about? Well, just tune in and listen for yourself. Lots of other great stuff is in the show, including some pretty in-depth e-mail responses. Definitely check it out.

New Sparking! METEOR Characters Again
VegettoEX @ 12:13 pm EDT -- You can read below that we've sorta been keeping up with some of the most recently announced characters from the upcoming Sparking! METEOR (or Budokai Tenkaichi 3) for the PS2 & Wii. It looks like there are a couple more to go around this weekend.

Jeux-France (of course) has updated with some larger scans showcasing these new characters. All of the ones listed below will be appearing, including the hinted-at Chi-Chi...! It will be her young form as depicted in her first appearance, which is pretty neat stuff. I guess.

The other big of interesting news is the confirmation that the game's opening will indeed be yet another CG movie (rather than the traditional 2D animation found in the second and third Budokai games). As we've covered in the past, the opening will feature an all-new song entitled "Super Survivor" performed by the one and only Hironobu Kageyama.

Check back later today (hopefully!) for Episode #0090 of the podcast... or just subscribe and get them automatically as soon as they come out!

New Sparking! METEOR Characters, Including Dr. Uiro
VegettoEX @ 8:18 pm EDT -- EvilGamerX has plopped a brand, spakin' new scan from Weekly Jump (#38, to be exact) over on the forum, which showcases three all-new playable characters in the upcoming Sparking! METEOR. We've got (dub names in parenthesis) Dr. Uiro (Dr. Wheelo), Ôzaru Selypa (Great Ape Fasha), and Tambourine!

I know people around here have been specifically clamoring for the ol' doctor, so that's... well, that's certainly something.

Podcast Episode #0089
VegettoEX @ 10:55 pm EDT -- Episode #0089 of the podcast is available for download! Boy, do I need to get some sleep. In the meantime, the episode this week is indeed volume seven of the so-called "Manga Review of Awesomeness"...! Lots of other great things came up, including a mini-topic regarding our thoughts on DragonBall hentai. Definitely check it out.

Podcast Episode #0088
VegettoEX @ 9:50 pm EDT -- Episode #0088 of the podcast is available for download! Sorry for the day-delay. As you can probably guess, things have been a little hectic. But fear not, since we are here to deliver! We discussed all of the news from the last week, including the two Koro-chan Pack CDs, the surprising continuation of FUNimation's Spanish DVD releases, the apparent DBGT "Lost Episodes" boxset coming out, Japanese-exclusive TV plug-and-play games, and so much more. Our e-mails were all fantastic, as well, and allowed us to get into the always-interesting topic of DragonBall's inherent qualities versus Naruto's inherent qualities... or lack of on both sides, depending on your viewpoint. Definitely check it out.

Podcast Episode #0088 Slight Delay
VegettoEX @ 9:27 pm EDT -- No big worries; it's going to be up tomorrow for everyone! We didn't end up doing the scheduled "Manga Review of Awesomeness", so you all have a reprieve for a week. Make sure you catch up! Instead, we did another round of "Catching Up On E-mail" where we answered a whole slew of questions. We also caught up on a bit of news, but if you're reading this home page, you can scroll down and be ahead of the rest of the class that only listens to the show! ^_~

New DB CD Coming In September
VegettoEX @ 11:39 pm EDT -- Tanooki Kuribo did a little extra digging around based on the previous update, and found a companion to the Koro-chan Pack DragonBall Z Best CD that's coming out in September. What is this companion, you ask? One for the original DragonBall, of course! That's right, it looks like we're also getting Koro-chan Pack DragonBall Best. You can find its entry over on Play-Asia and CDJapan. According to its Neowing page, we can expect both "Makafushigi Adobenchâ!" and "Romantikku Ageru Yo", along with a couple other songs.

Koro-chan Pack DragonBall Best (COCZ-1064) should come out for the same ¥1575 (roughly $12-$13) on 09 September 2007. Expect a full review upon its release!

New DBZ CD Coming In September
VegettoEX @ 10:16 pm EDT -- In doing my typical rounds this evening, I came across an interesting entry over on CDJapan. If you check out the corresponding Neowing page, you can check out a little more info. This Koro-chan Pack DragonBall Z Best is essentially a cheap CD put out to cash in a little bit; the page even mentions that the series has regained a bit of popularity. It will contain "CHA-LA HEAD-CHA-LA" and some ending themes from the movies and TV specials. These CDs typically only have a few tracks (thus the low price tag).

Koro-chan Pack DragonBall Z Best (COCZ-1065) will come out for a rather cheap ¥1575 (roughly $12-$13) on 09 September 2007. Expect a full review upon its release!
