September 2001 - Mozarto de Kiko
Title: "Mozarto de Kiko"
Song: "Eine Kleine Nachtmusik"
Artist: Mozart
Length: 1:21
Size: 16.8 MB
Format: MPEG-1 (1500 kbps)
Source: Kiko-chan's Smile
Editor: Michael "VegettoEX" LaBrie
Participation: NekoCon FLASH (2001)

Let it be known that I don't expect ANYONE to have ANY idea what "Kiko-chan's Smile" is. In fact, if I hadn't just happened to accidentally stick around in a video room at Shojoucon, I wouldn't know, either.

Briefly, "Kiko-chan's Smile" is about a (very) young girl who's way too intelligent for her age. Lots of humor (mostly VERY Japanese in nature), references to other shojou, etc.

Other than what appears to be one VHS release in Japan, the only availability of this title is fansubbed. TechnoGirls is the subbing group, so do a search up on them if you're looking to obtain the video (episodes one through four).

So about this music video..

August 2001 - Falling Down (Version 2)
Title: "Falling Down"
Song: "Falling Down"
Band: Bigwig
Length: 2:43
Size: 33.4 MB
Format: MPEG-1 (1500 kbps)
Source: Rurouni Kenshin (OVA)
Editor: Michael "VegettoEX" LaBrie
Participation: Otakon 2001 (Overflow Tape 3)

Who'da thunk that simply updating my version of Premiere would have let me capture at 640x480 with no problems? BOOM! "Falling Down" was re-done! I had *so* many ideas I wanted to implement into a revision of this video (see below), and now I'm not sure that I did so x_X;;. Unfortunately, I wanted to submit this video to Otakon 2001... and I started it only 2 weeks before the deadline. D'oh! In the end, I didn't get done in the video everything I wanted to, and I'm definitely not happy with some of the transitions. I knew I wasn't going to get into the main competition, simply because doing a "Rurouni Kenshin" OVA video was suicide (there were 10 of them submitted this year), and I knew I made too many compromises in the video just to get it done in time.

June 2001 - X-Men Trailer / DBZ
Title: "X-Men Trailer / DBZ"
Audio: "X-Men" 30 Second TV Spot
Source: "X-Men" DVD (First Release)
Length: 0:36
Size: 9.30 MB
Format: MPEG-1 (1500 kbps)
Source: DragonBall Z
Editor: Michael "VegettoEX" LaBrie &
Meredith "Meri" Cantoni
Participation: "This is Otakudom" Opening Trailer

After watching Brad DeMoss' trailer for "Star Wars: Episode 1" using "Neon Genesis Evangelion" footage, I said to my girlfriend, "More people should make these."

Later that night, we found ourselves working on one.

This simple, two-day project was just a little fun thing for us to work on, but it's quite humorous ^^;;.

Using the audio from an "X-Men" trailer, we decided to use DBZ footage, simply because our sites are DBZ related, and it's what we immediately had available to us. Also, since we wanted it to be a quick project, we opted to use a 30-second TV spot for our trailer, rather than a long, intense theatrical trailer.

June 2001 - Just Rock 'n Roll (aka "Brolly's Hate")
Title: "Just Rock 'n Roll" (aka "Brolly's Hate")
Song: "Just Rock 'n Roll"
Band: Midtown
Length: 3:15
Size: 26.0 MB
Format: MPEG-1 (unknown bitrate)
Source: DragonBall Z (movies 8, 10, 11)
Editor: Michael "VegettoEX" LaBrie
Participation: n/a

This video was made as a spur-of-the-moment "thing" to keep me busy during a day when I just had absolutely no plans. I had originally started this video (got about 30 seconds done) back during the first semester of my freshman year (college), but trashed it because it was going no-where (and it looked nothing like it does now). Unfortunately, one thing that's held the video back was the source footage: my DBZ movies 8 and 10 are horrible quality.

However, it wasn't meant to be a video that showed off how good my sources were. It was just meant to be something that kept me busy.

As I continued on with it, however, I found myself getting pulled in by the video, and trying to make it an actual good project. So, please, try not to hold it against me while viewing the video that the source footage is absolute crap.

February 2001 - Tribute to Freeza
Title: "Tribute to Freeza"
Song: "Hit or Miss" (Original Recording)
Band: A New Found Glory
Length: 3:19
Size: 45.8 MB
Format: MPEG-1 (2-pass variable; 2000 kbps average)
Source: DragonBall Z
Editor: Michael "VegettoEX" LaBrie
Participation: n/a

I had originally intended for this to actually be a video that would let me get taken seriously in regards to music videos. To top it off, I was going to use DBZ. I really thought I'd make the greatest video.

Sure enough, it's something I consider to be very mediocre.

This was my first long-term project. I knew I wanted to use footage from the Ano Yo Budokai (the Afterlife Tournament, which takes place after the death of Cell), but the commercial VHS release wasn't out yet, when I started the video (which was probably late 2000). So, rather than compromise my content (I thought about using footage from the I-Channel, but logo-ness would still be present), I decided to just wait it out.

December 2000 - Anchor
Title: "Anchor"
Song: "Anchor"
Band: Less Than Jake
Length: 0:29
Size: 4.02 MB
Format: MPEG-1 (2-pass variable; 2000 kbps average)
Source: Trigun
Editor: Michael "VegettoEX" LaBrie
Participation: n/a

This was a one-hour (maybe two?) production one night over winter break my freshman year, I believe. I was "experimenting" with capturing footage from my DVD player via the S-cable, and since "Trigun" doesn't have Macrovision encoding... uhh... yay, it worked. Unfortunately, like about TWENTY BAGILLION ZILLION OTHER VIDEOS, all that was out was disc one of "Trigun," so I made a video to it using only disc one... even worse, only the first episode.

Yes, once more... retard am I.

There's a few little dinkets of timing here and there, like the opening with the gunshot. God, just like "Better Off Dead," I can't bring myself to actually WATCH the video to do some real commentary on it... plus, I just don't know where it is at this moment. Probably back at school in the crusty, un-used CD binder.

Everyone has their first. Your first time is an experience you never forget, and always lingers in your mind each time you repeat the process. All of your triumphs and faults, alike, continue onwards from this very first time. Hopefully, you mature and make better decisions along the way. Despite all this, you should never forget your roots.

But Christ... like everyone else... how I wish I could ;_;
