We all
frequent message boards and online forums (such as alt.fan.dragonball),
and we all contribute as much as we can. Unfortunately,
we don't KNOW of all the places people post questions, so
it's impossible for us to reach everyone. However, if you're
reading this, you at least know where WE are, so it's possible
for you to ask us directly.
What
we're going for here is sort of an "Answerman"
or "Ask John" (from Anime
News Network and Anime
Nation, respectively). We'd like you to e-mail in whatever
questions you may have, so long as it somehow relates to
the world of DragonBall; be it the manga,
the anime, merchandise... whatever. We've been around for
a few years, now, and we know the ropes... we like to think
we know our stuff.
And
we want to help. E-mail
your questions to VegettoEX@aol.com with the subject "Ask
VegettoEX." We'll try to update this section every
Saturday, with at least one question straight from the fans.
Thanks!

Q.
Is there a way to somehow edit the English verison of
DBZ to insert the original Japanese musical score?- James
Machuga
A.
Try as you might, there's really no way you're ever going
to hear FUNimation's English cast for DBZ with the original
Japanese score (the closest would be the original FUNimation
/ Ocean dub of DBZ movies 1-3, which did indeed have the
original Japanese score...and the original DB TV series, of course...)
No
matter what kind of software and hardware you have, you're
not going to be able to combine FUNimation's English dub
of DBZ with the original score. The voices and music are
a single audio track, and just cannot be separated.
Q.
How come I was able to access your DVD Guide long before
you announced it on the site through this link? (http://www.templeotrunks.com/dbz_amv) -
Gabe J. Buijs
Because you're the 10 millionth visitor and you're super
special! :D
Actually,
it's because while it wasn't quite finished at the time,
it was still of use to the members of "Project DOOMRIDER."
As you'll notice, that site is the main page for the "Project
DOOMRIDER" collaborative anime music video project,
of which I'm involved (both as an editor and as the main
technical advisor / compiler).
Stay
tuned to that page, however! Our editing on the project
has officially begun as-of Friday the 15th, and is set to
premiere in approximately two months.
Q.
Why does Sean Schemmel get to voice in a great anine like
Shaman King? Why don't they get someone more talented?
-
Forg0tage
A.
The unbiased, informative answer? Some FUNimation voice
actors and actresses have been "lending their services" to
other dubbing companies, lately, for work in other series.
You'll notice that Schemmel has also done work in Berserk
and Kinnikuman. On the flip side, voice actors have
also been coming to FUNimation for some outside work, lately
(for example, ADV's Vic Mignogna came in to do the voice
of Broli).
The
biased answer? ... ^^;;
Q.
I've been trying to find out for quite some time now...
when is FUNimation going to release that third volume
out of the "Trunks" saga on uncut, bilingual
DVD? I believe the volume was entitled "Z Warriors
Prepare" on VHS. I've gone to FUNimation's website,
and according to their catalogue listings, it is on DVD
already! ... which is awfully strange, because if it is,
I've yet to see any stores offering it for sale, online
or otherwise! -
Amy Phillips
A. T'is a great question, with an answer that has
eluded many a fan. Without announcing it formally, FUNimation
re-released both "Trunks" volumes on DVD.
The first volume ("Mysterious Youth") had
some typos in the subtitles corrected, as well as an adjusted
subtitle height. The second volume ("Prelude to
Terror") not only had these adjustments, but had
something else, as well...
...the two episodes you're looking for were added to it! This
re-released volume was called "Vol. 34/35," since
it technically contained not only the earlier vol. 34, but also the
"missing" vol. 35. Check out the "DVD
Guide" entry page for the "Trunks"
series. You'll notice that the re-release has a smaller
splash on the cover (bottom right). The new version's back
cover also clearly lays out the five episodes contained
on the disc.
So
basically, if you get "Prelude to Terror,"
you'll be getting the episodes you're missing. Unless you're
an unlucky sap like me who got the two "Trunks"
volumes when they first came out. Of course, it's not like
FUNimation would ever do a recall or a trade-in... : /
That's
it for this week! E-mail
us your questions for next week's update! It was kind
of a slower week for questions this week, but the ones that
were submitted were genuinely good questions. I look forward
to answering them all, so get crackin' !
