Translator’s Note: This is the second version of my “Unmei no Hi” translation. I did the original while I knew almost nothing of Japanese grammar, and so I was working mostly with dictionary definitions and vague notions of structure given to me by others. My original translation first appeared on the internet in late 2002; this revision comes near the end of 2004. To say it was long overdue is an understatement, yet I don’t think I would have been ready before now. (Frankly, I’m still not ready.) But while I may still not approach the sheer poetic quality of Steve “Daimao” Simmons' work, I do hope that my own translation (which still owes something to Daimao for his helpful suggestions on syntax and word choice) is actually decent, this time.
