Daizenshuu EX - General - Ask VegettoEX

We all frequent message boards and online forums (such as alt.fan.dragonball), and we all contribute as much as we can. Unfortunately, we don't KNOW of all the places people post questions, so it's impossible for us to reach everyone. However, if you're reading this, you at least know where WE are, so it's possible for you to ask us directly.

What we're going for here is sort of an "Answerman" or "Ask John" (from Anime News Network and Anime Nation, respectively). We'd like you to e-mail in whatever questions you may have, so long as it somehow relates to the world of DragonBall; be it the manga, the anime, merchandise.. whatever. We've been around for a few years, now, and we know the ropes... we like to think we know our stuff.

And we want to help. E-mail your questions to VegettoEX@aol.com with the subject "Ask VegettoEX." We'll try to update this section every weekend with at least one question straight from the fans. Thanks!

Q. In the last episode that Future Trunks appears in, he tells his mom (Bulma) that he is going to go back to the past or the other timeline and tell the others that he defeated Androids 17 and 18, but before he does, Cell shows up and Trunks fights him and destroys him...... and that's it! What happened? Trunks just said that he was going to go back and tell the others. Why didn't he? Did he forget so soon after his fight with Cell or what? And on top of that it says three years had passed after Trunks defeated the Androids, and the cities are being rebuilt. Why did he wait three years to decide to go back and tell everyone the good news, and then not end up even doing it at all? - Kevin Crockett

A. Well, I suppose I'll answer your question in reverse. There is a very good reason why Trunks would have waited three years before being ready to go back again, and that's because the time machine took a long time for it to accumulate the energy needed for a trip through time. Just think of it this way: just as driving a car with half a tank of gas across a 1,000-mile-wide desert with no gas stations isn't a good idea, neither would taking the time machine without a full charge. He could end up somewhere he didn't intend, or worse yet, killed by whatever forces are at work with time travel. So... yeah.

As for whether or not he actually went back in time again, well... you're right... we're never shown if he does or not. It's never mentioned, either, so it would seem that he probably didn't... but on the other hand, maybe it was just so uneventful that it wasn't worth talking about ("Hey guys! Trunks came back! Let's... have a barbecue... or something..."). But in the end, we really don't know one way or the other. So, I guess the best answer is: you can think of it however you want. ^^; - Julian

Q. Buu became Fat Buu after absorbing South Kaiôshin and Dai Kaiôshin. If he became Kid Buu once more after Goku and crew escaped his body, then what happened to the aforementioned Kaiôshin(s)? - RMK

A. That's a great question that is never answered, as much as I agree it should be. We could probably say that somewhere along the way of all the transformations and absorptions that they... err... vanished, or simply ceased to be. But that doesn't make much sense, either. All that Majin Buu stuff is just so darn illogical! - VegettoEX

Q. When all of Cell's victims were resurrected, shouldn't Kaiô-sama be revived as well? He was killed by Cell when he blew himself up, which means that Bojack should still be sealed up. In the movie they explained that the seal was broken when Kaiô-sama died...? - Roy Mingelers

A. Perhaps Kaiô-sama transcends the power of Shenlong; it is somewhat strange how he remains dead for the entire rest of the series. Although, beyond the story they made up in movie nine concerning Bojack, it really doesn't seem to matter one way or the other if he is alive or not. He gets to keep his body and go about his daily business, so other than having a halo, there's not much of a change. - VegettoEX

Q. During the Freeza Saga, when no one could sense Goku's energy after he did that Kamehameha blast that was ineffective against "100% Powered-Up" Freeza, was he dead? I know he wasn't in the manga, but they sure suggested it in the anime, especially since he returned to the fight AFTER all of Freeza's victims were wished back. So did he die or not? - Camden Natysin

A. I was planning on typing some very witty response to this about how I've answered it a gazillion times. Then I looked through the archives. And realized I've never answered it in this section. And felt like a dumbass.

It's one of those questions that I get all the time, and I feel like it should be solidly explained somewhere or another... but I'm a dolt and it's not :P.

Long story short? No. He's not dead. It's impossible.

Remember that all those people are wished back to life with Earth's Dragon Balls. Goku has already been revived by this set once before (after the fight with Raditz). At this point in the series, Earth's Dragon Balls can only bring a person back to life once. Were Goku to have died, there's no way he would have been brought back to life. Thus, we can safely know for a fact that he did, in fact, not die during his battle with Freeza.

It was all just filler stuffage to give Gohan a chance to shine a little bit more. And now, the next time someone asks this question, I can just link them to this entry! :D - VegettoEX

Q. A looong time ago I came across an MP3 of an awesome techno version of the Tapion theme. I'm not sure if it was an official remix (doubt it, actually) or just a fan one. Do you know where it came from... cause I think I got it off this site before you went off-line for a while. Thanks! - GotenZ1

A. There are actually two techno remixes of Tapion's theme that have been floating around the internet, both of them originating on the now-defunct MP3.com.

The first is by "Zenkai Power" (or "Cocomox"), who was a friend of "VegettoEX's Home Page" in days of the past. I plugged the song a lot, since it was the first real American remix of a DBZ song that I had ever heard of. It's actually quite good, too!

The second was by Martin Schmalzried, and was never featured on this site. Like many other fans, I just happened to come across it in my downloads and surfing. The majority of this track is a little more laid-back than the Cocomox mix, but is very cool in its own right.

Since I happen to still have both songs, and you can't really download them anywhere from the original sources anymore, I'm throwing them both up on our "Music Downloads" page at their original bitrate and filesize. Enjoy! - VegettoEX

THIS WEEK'S MESSAGE BOARD DISCUSSION:

Q. I know that the DB series is over with after GT, but I don't understand why they don't make any more movies just for the heck of it or not. The movies do not relate to the series, so why should they stop when the series does? I know it would be logical to stop making movies after the series stops, but why not for fun? - Trunks_Rage

A. Read over the discussion, here! Looking forward to your thoughts!

We're trying to stay with our weekly schedule for the section... so... e-mail us your questions for next week's update! We love getting all these questions, each week, so the more you send us, the more we can (try to) answer for you!
