We
all frequent message boards and online forums (such as
alt.fan.dragonball), and we all contribute as much as
we can. Unfortunately, we don't KNOW of all the places
people post questions, so it's impossible for us to reach
everyone. However, if you're reading this, you at least
know where WE are, so it's possible for you to ask us
directly.
What
we're going for here is sort of an "Answerman"
or "Ask John" (from Anime
News Network and Anime
Nation, respectively). We'd like you to e-mail in
whatever questions you may have, so long as it somehow
relates to the world of DragonBall; be it the manga,
the anime, merchandise.. whatever. We've been around for
a few years, now, and we know the ropes... we like to
think we know our stuff.
And
we want to help. E-mail
your questions to VegettoEX@aol.com with the subject "Ask
VegettoEX." We'll try to update this section
every weekend with at least one question straight from
the fans. Thanks!

Q. can
you make me one pic -

Q. I was wondering
if Goku's Super Dragon Fist was ever explained. As far
as I know Goku has only used the attack twice (once in
movie 13 where he first used it, and the second time in
the Super 17 saga of DBGT). I figured that attack came
when he acquired his SSJ3 powers, but he wasnt SSJ3 when
he beat Super 17. Was this just another plothole in the
lovely world of Dragon Ball?
- FusionHA2071
A.
It's just "one of those things," I guess. Nothing's
ever explained about the technique (where
he learned it, how he performs it, what it takes to perform
it, what actually takes place with that dragon that appears,
etc.). Then again, remember that in both
instances, the move was used in Toei-created animation.
Sorry there's no real answer ^^;; - VegettoEX
Q. I
read somewhere that before DragonBall, Toriyama-sensei
wrote a few one-shot "prototypes" of the story.
I think one was called Tapon's Adventure where
they would search for the "LongPao." A small
dragon would pop out and grant a small wish when hit with
a ki-ha (physical life-force/aura blast). Has
this been published in some way like in a Toriyama book,
or exclusively in the old Weekly Shonen Jumps (Japan)?
- Makankoposo
A.
Sounds to me like you're thinking of / remembering Dragon
Boy~! Yep, Dragon Boy was put out as a one-shot
before he started with the actual DragonBall
manga. It was published in volume two of the Toriyama
Akira Marusaku Gekijô series put out by Jump
Comics, which are compilations of all of Toriyama's one-shots.
Volume
2 also contains The Adventures of Tongpoo, which
revolves around a young boy who crash lands on a planet
in space and meets up with a girl from a previous mission.
The "main villain" looks suspiciously like the
pterodactyl that kidnaps Bulma, there are capsules that
explode into houses... Toriyama's really not as original
as we all like to think! Luckily, he took the best aspects
from all his stories and ended up creating the world of
DragonBall, so we'll have to thank him for it,
anyway! - VegettoEX
Q. So,
when two characters fuse, whether by Potara or Dance,
what happens to their individual minds? Are their minds
combined? Is a new one created with none of the cares
or memories of the original? Does one mind take over as
the dominant one (as seems to have happened with Kaioshin
and Dai Kaioshin)? - FDLink
A.
The persona of the resulting fusion seems to be their
own individual character (at least in the case of Gotenks
and Vegetto). This is somewhat backed-up by the fusion
characters even knowing their own name (for example, Gotenks).
Whether or not anyone is dominant has
always been up to fan debate (such as, Gogeta being Goku-dominant
and Vegetto being Vegeta-dominant), but there's really
nothing anywhere to prove it one way or the other.
The
memories of what happens during the fusion, though (such
as fights the character engages in) seems to carry over
back to the individual characters (as when Gotenks returned
after battling Majin Buu for the first time, and both
Goten and Trunks could remember what happened). The fusion
character (at least with Gotenks) seems to remember what
happened during previous times they were formed, but it's
unknown whether, say, Gotenks could remember things that
happened in Goten's past.
Most
of it is really open to debate and speculation, especially
with Gotenks and Vegetto (and, if you want, Gogeta). Kaiôshin
seems to be totally different, ending up with only a single
voice, and such... it's all wacky! - VegettoEX
Q. If
Goku had been able to fuse with Gohan as opposed to Vegeta
with the Potara in the series, and the dance in Movie
12, would the resulting fusions (Gokan, Gohaku, Gohun,
Kuhan) have been at all stronger than Vegetto or Gogeta?
-
FDLink
A.
Old Kaiôshin makes a remark about Vegetto's strength
being so incredible partly due to the fact that Goku and
Vegeta were such intense rivals. This is all
open to pure speculation, but if I had to make some kind
of determination on the order of strengths, here's how
I think it might have gone:
- Vegetto
(Goku + Vegeta; Potara)
- Un-named
(Goku + Gohan; Potara)
- Gogeta
(Goku + Vegeta; Dance)
Not
that it's any real help, but I hope it's interesting to
read, at least ^^;; - VegettoEX
Q. Is there
undeniable proof of the making of a Dragon Ball Z live
action movie anywhere, (besides the "official"
DragonBall Z website)? Or is FUNimation pulling a cute
joke on some die-hard Dragon Ball fans by saying there
is a movie being made? - Katie
C.
A.
Here are three articles Anime News Network has posted
over the last year or so directly noting the live-action
DBZ movie:
FUNimation
is directly and personally noting 20th Century Fox as
the company that they have doing the live-action movie.
Daniel Cocanougher, a name that should be somewhat familiar
to anyone who knows FUNimation, stated, "FUNimation
is very excited to be working with FOX in their production
of a live-action Dragon Ball Z Feature Film. FOX plans
to place this movie on a fast-track production schedule..."
blah blah blah.
Then
again, we recently had the news "leaked" that
Fox will not be doing the movie. What's
the truth? Will it be made? Won't it? Will wrestlers be
in it? Whatever happened to the Mortal Kombat 3 movie?
These questions and more, next time!
- VegettoEX
Q. A thing that's
had me wondering was at the 23rd Tenka-ichi Budôkai
when Kami used the Mafuba on Piccolo. How was
he able to do this without any risk to himself? Everyone
else who did that move with the exception of Tenshinhan
in the anime sacrificed their life to do so. - Wassup2
A.
Interesting question. I guess the only way I can answer
it is with another question:
How
is it that anyone can train to learn the technique and
know that they've perfected it... if using the technique
results in death? Wouldn't you die in the process of learning
it?
Oh,
the silly world of DragonBall. - VegettoEX

Q. I've only heard a few of Zard's songs, and
only "Dan Dan Kokoro Hikarete 'ku"
by Field of View, but I was wondering how popular are
they in Japan?
