We all
frequent message boards and online forums (such as alt.fan.dragonball),
and we all contribute as much as we can. Unfortunately,
we don't KNOW of all the places people post questions, so
it's impossible for us to reach everyone. However, if you're
reading this, you at least know where WE are, so it's possible
for you to ask us directly.
What
we're going for here is sort of an "Answerman"
or "Ask John" (from Anime
News Network and Anime
Nation, respectively). We'd like you to e-mail in whatever
questions you may have, so long as it somehow relates to
the world of DragonBall; be it the manga,
the anime, merchandise... whatever. We've been around for
a few years, now, and we know the ropes... we like to think
we know our stuff.
And
we want to help. E-mail
your questions to VegettoEX@aol.com with the subject "Ask
VegettoEX." We'll try to update this section every
Saturday, with at least one question straight from the fans.
Thanks!

Q.
I would like to put clips from the Ocean-dubbing of DBZ
on to my website. The trouble is, I've only got them on
VHS/tape. No one has produced the Ocean-dubbing on DVD,
as you answered in my last question. Is there any way,
at all, that I could take clips from a VHS tape? - kestra_kaito
A.
Yes there is! Even back in the days before anime had made the transition to bilingual
DVDs, webmasters were still managing to put up clips from their VHS fansubs and such.
What you'll need is a video card with RCA ports (the red, white, and yellow A/V ones), and
a cable to run from the output jacks on your VCR to the video card. From there, you cue up
the tape to the point you want to record from, and start importing from the capture program.
If it sounds a bit complex, it is, and depending on your computer's ability to handle raw
video, your results may vary. But that's how it's done, so...good luck!
Q.
I'm already purchasing all of the DB DVDs because they
are a great deal to get all of the episodes in so few
DVDs and I'm buying DBGT as the DVD releases goes because
it's only 64 episodes I believe and that won't break the
bank. But when it comes to DBZ I'm unsure. I'm contemplating
buying the DVDs as they are but making sure I get them
all in sets as the boxes are released instead of buying
them one at a time. Does this sound like a good plan?
I don't want to wait around and hope they re-release them
ala the DB format. I expect to only be able to get 3 or
4 episodes per DVD. So should I buy the DVDs as is in
box sets or sit around and hope that they are released
in the DB format or 10-17 episodes for 2 DVDs in one set?

I find it extremely unlikely, given the length of DBZ and the amount of discs that they've
already released, that FUNimation would go back and redo the DBZ DVDs in the style of
their DragonBall saga sets. You're better off just getting the current DVD boxed sets as they
come out.
Q.
I just wanna know when is FUNimation going to release
the "Cell Games" on DVD uncut? -

There's been nothing official at this point, but my guess is that they'll probably come out
sooner or later. It wouldn't make sense not to put them out.

Hello. In "Unmei no Hi ~Tamashii Tai Tamashii~," some
form of yodeling is heard multiple times throughout the
song:
YUDULIYA-VELE YUDULIYA VELE
YUDULIYA-VELE
YUDULIYA AIYALIYA
What the hell IS that? -

As far as I know, it's meaningless. I'm not an expert in Japanese, mind you,
but I was curious about this too...so I showed it to a woman I knew who was
originally from Japan. She told me it didn't mean anything, so that's what
I'm sticking with.
That's
it for this week! E-mail
us your questions for next week's update! Mike will be back with an update at the
regularly-scheduled time next week, so I'm sure he'll be eager to hear all your burning
inquiries about DB. This was fun, though...I might want to try it again sometime.
Mata ne~!
